Agency (New Delhi): Delhi Police have expanded their investigation concerning a doctored video involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah, which allegedly depicted him speaking against reservations for SC/ST and OBC communities. As part of the probe, approximately 16 leaders, including Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, have been summoned.
This investigation has seen the deployment of special police teams across Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. On May 1, Reddy along with four other members from the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee—Shiva Kumar Ambala, Asma Tasleem, Satish Manne, and Naveen Pettem—are expected to appear before the police.
Additional summons have been issued to various political figures including a Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha candidate from Uttar Pradesh, and two Congress leaders from Rajasthan and Nagaland, all of whom are required to bring their mobile phones for examination.
The investigation was triggered by complaints from the BJP and the Ministry of Home Affairs, leading to the registration of an FIR by the Delhi Police Special Cell Cyber Wing’s IFSO unit. The FIR includes charges under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act, pointing to the alleged distribution of videos that could incite community discord and disrupt public order.
The controversial video surfaced on social media, portraying Amit Shah in a context that suggested the BJP might revoke reservation rights, a critical issue for many in India. This has led to heightened scrutiny and legal actions to address the spread of potentially inflammatory and misleading digital content.
