Agency(New Delhi): The ‘All India Muslim Mahapanchayat,’ which was slated to take place at Ramlila ground in New Delhi on Monday, has been postponed. The deferral comes as the Delhi Police did not issue a no-objection certificate (NOC), citing the absence of “written assurance” from the organizers, Mission Save Constitution, about the safe and smooth conduct of the event.
Earlier, on December 1, the Delhi Police had informed the Delhi High Court of their conditional permission for the event. The conditions focused on ensuring safety and smooth management, including limitations on the number of attendees and speakers, as well as restrictions on the content of speeches to avoid any actions contrary to Indian laws or hate speech that could disrupt public harmony.
However, by Sunday night, the police had not received the necessary assurances from the organizers. Advocate Mehmood Pracha, head of Mission Save Constitution, mentioned that they have moved a petition before the court regarding this issue, with a hearing scheduled for December 19.
The police had previously outlined specific conditions for the Mahapanchayat, including a cap on the number of attendees at 10,000, a fixed list of speakers, and a commitment to not exceed or change these details. These stipulations were aimed at ensuring public safety and maintaining peace and tranquility in the area.
Instead of the event at Ramlila ground, the organizers have planned a smaller gathering at the Aiwan-e-Ghalib auditorium near ITO on Monday. Mission Save Constitution had initially proposed the Mahapanchayat as part of a series of events to strengthen weaker sections of society, starting with minority communities and then extending to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, with the aim of amplifying the voices of the oppressed.
