Agency (Bhubaneswar): The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has lodged an FIR against an individual who allegedly threatened to kill Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The FIR was filed on Thursday by OPCC vice president Sivanand Roy at the cyber crime police station, with OPCC president Sarat Patnaik, Campaign committee chairman Bhakta Charan Das, and AICC General Secretary and Odisha Incharge Dr. Ajay Kumar present.
The FIR was prompted by a social media post by a user named “Bharat Cinema,” who stated, “Congress will never come to my Odisha. If in future Pappu comes I will become Nathuram Godse.” The post also included pictures of Rahul Gandhi, indicating a targeted threat against him.
The OPCC’s statement emphasized the seriousness of the threat, noting that the individual aimed to harm Gandhi with a pistol. “From the photographs, it is crystal clear that the representative of Bharat Cinema is aiming to kill Rahul Ji. We request an investigation into whether the organization ‘Bharat Cinema’ belongs to the same ideology as Nathuram Godse,” the statement read.
The OPCC urged a thorough and scientific investigation to uncover the truth behind the threat and take immediate action against the culprit. “In the interest of justice, we request that adequate and scientific investigation be made to find out the truth of the threat against Mr. Gandhi,” the letter stated.
Congress leader Biswaranjan Mohanty reiterated the call for an investigation, stressing that Odisha is a state of peace and that the threatening post is unacceptable. “An FIR has been lodged against a Twitter handle in which a person has threatened to kill Rahul Gandhi. An inquiry should be done to identify who wants to become Nathuram Godse,” Mohanty said.
In the recent state assembly elections, the BJP won 78 out of 147 seats, leading to the resignation of long-serving Odisha CM and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik. The BJP’s victory ended the 24-year rule of the BJD in Odisha. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured 20 out of 21 parliamentary seats in the state, with the remaining seat won by Congress.
