Agency(New Delhi): The Congress party finds itself in a financial bind as it navigates the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with its candidates struggling due to the freeze on party accounts imposed by the Central government. Shashi Tharoor, a member of the Congress Working Committee and Thiruvananthapuram MP, acknowledged the financial strain faced by party candidates, attributing it to the frozen accounts hindering the party’s ability to provide necessary support.
Despite the financial constraints, Tharoor expressed gratitude for the dedicated efforts of Congress workers nationwide, who continue to persevere amidst the challenges. He remained optimistic, asserting that the public’s unwavering support and the party’s commitment to lawful fundraising avenues would sustain the campaign momentum.
Echoing Tharoor’s sentiments, V D Satheesan, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, highlighted the disparity in financial resources between Congress and rival parties like the BJP and the CPI(M). Satheesan emphasized the electorate’s recognition of the value of democracy over monetary influence, expressing confidence in the electorate’s discernment.
Satheesan further criticized the government’s actions, characterizing them as reflective of a fascist regime, particularly condemning the unprecedented move to freeze the accounts of the principal opposition party. He contrasted Congress’s stance against what he termed as a fascist government with the CPI(M)’s approach.
As the campaign unfolds, the financial limitations faced by Congress pose significant challenges in mobilizing resources and conducting effective outreach. Nevertheless, party leaders remain resolute in their commitment to democratic principles and trust in the electorate’s support to transcend financial constraints.
