New Delhi (Agency): In a significant move towards achieving jointness and integration among the Indian defence forces, a common Confidential Report (CR) for Major General and Lieutenant General rank officers from all three services has been approved and is set to be implemented within the next three to four months.
Sources within the defence establishment confirmed the approval of the common CR, stating that this reform will play a crucial role in streamlining procedures, assessments, and ultimately leading to improved outcomes. It will contribute to the overall goal of achieving 'jointness and integration' among the armed forces.
This development comes at a time when the Indian armed forces are progressing towards theaterisation, and several measures have already been taken to foster jointness and integration across various domains.
Currently, the selection system for combined or tri-services appointments is based on parameters specific to the parent service. However, recent cross-services postings of a significant number of officers have paved the way for change.
As the armed forces move towards the establishment of joint structures and organizations, the need arose to align the appraisal system for officers undertaking tasks in tri-services appointments. This step will facilitate the identification and selection of officers for such appointments in the Command, Staff, or Instructional channels based on their suitability.
The implementation of the common Confidential Report will bring standardization and uniformity to the appraisal process, ensuring a fair and transparent evaluation of officers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. It will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of joint operations, fostering a culture of collaboration and cooperation among the defence forces.
The move towards jointness and integration is a significant stride in strengthening the overall capabilities and preparedness of the Indian defence forces. It reflects the commitment to creating a seamless and integrated structure, enabling enhanced coordination and synergy in defense operations.
