Agency(New Delhi): The Union Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi, has inaugurated the C-CARES web portal, developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). Launched on 31st January 2024, this portal represents a major advancement in the digital transformation journey of the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organization (CMPFO). It aims to digitize the organization’s records and streamline its work processes.
CMPFO, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Coal established in 1948, administers Provident Fund and Pension schemes for coal sector workers. Currently, the organization serves approximately 3.3 lakh Provident Fund subscribers and 6.1 lakh pensioners.
Prior to the launch of C-CARES, the CMPFO processed Provident Fund and pension claims manually. The new portal introduces an online system for processing and settling these claims, enhancing the speed, transparency, and efficiency of operations. This digital shift is expected to improve record management, operational monitoring, and instill greater confidence among subscribers and pensioners.
C-DAC, an R&D organization under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, was entrusted with the project in March 2023. C-CARES is designed as a comprehensive solution to address both operational and software challenges. It enables CMPF subscribers and coal companies to log in and execute various functions. Subscribers can view their individual details and subscription status, while coal companies can submit contribution details, subscriber particulars, and claims for online processing and payment. This move towards a paperless working environment is anticipated to ensure timely and accurate claim settlements, reduce processing times, and improve grievance redressal.
The portal is intended as a public service platform, primarily benefiting CMPF subscribers working in the coal sector and its pensioners. This digital transformation aligns with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a Digital India, signifying CMPFO and the Ministry of Coal’s commitment to leveraging digital solutions for the betterment of all stakeholders involved.
