Agency (Assam): In a recent declaration, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) goal to secure 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, linking this target to the construction of the “Krishna Janmabhoomi temple” in Mathura and the “Gyanvapi temple” in Kashi. The announcement came during a press conference held in Ranchi, where Sarma also criticized the Congress party for allegedly stifling Hindu sentiments.
Sarma articulated a burgeoning “Hindu awakening” across the nation, which he believes has been catalyzed by the widespread support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing it as a “Modi tsunami.” He accused the Congress of historically impeding discussions on significant Hindu temples through legislative measures that restricted judicial intervention in disputes concerning religious sites like the Krishna Janmabhoomi and what is referred to as the Gyanvapi Mosque.
Further outlining his party’s ambitions, Sarma linked the BJP’s quest for a parliamentary majority to its plan to introduce a Uniform Civil Code, suggesting that such reforms are contingent upon achieving a decisive electoral victory. Additionally, he highlighted concerns regarding demographic changes in Jharkhand, warning of potential shifts in the state’s ethnic composition due to unchecked infiltration, which he claimed could jeopardize the status of indigenous populations within two decades.
