Agency(New Delhi): Tejashwi Yadav, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, has drawn criticism after a video surfaced showing him eating fish during Navratri. The video, posted by Yadav on April 9, the commencement of Navratri, features him alongside Mukesh Sahni, leader of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), while aboard a helicopter. In the video, both politicians are seen consuming fish and roti, with Yadav explaining the need for quick meals during hectic election campaigns.
In a light-hearted moment, Sahni displayed a chili, hinting that their political rivals might feel “burned” by the video. However, this act was met with sharp rebuke from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which accused Yadav of engaging in “politics of appeasement” and dubbed him a “seasonal Sanatani.”
Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, voiced strong objections, particularly highlighting the incongruity of consuming fish during Navratri, a time when many adhere to strict vegetarian diets as part of Sanatani Dharma. Sinha criticized the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) for not faithfully adhering to the religious practices, stating that true followers of Sanatan Dharma would not eat fish during such a sacred period.
Responding to the criticism, Yadav turned to the social media platform X to challenge the interpretation of the video’s timing and to critique the BJP’s response. He insinuated that the video was an intentional test of the opposition’s perception, declaring that the results confirmed his assumptions about their followers. This political exchange highlights the ongoing tensions and the use of religious practices as focal points in political discourse.
