Agency(Bengaluru): Bengaluru city is set to receive a significant boost in its railway infrastructure with the introduction of two additional Vande Bharat express train services. South Western Railway (SWR) authorities have confirmed the railway board’s approval for a new route between Kalaburagi and Bengaluru, alongside an extra Vande Bharat train service connecting Chennai and Mysuru via Bengaluru.
The service from Mysuru is scheduled to depart at 6 am, reaching Chennai by 12.20 pm. For its return journey, the train will leave Chennai at 5 pm, arriving back in Mysuru by 11:20 pm. The train will make stops at five stations along its route, including Mandya, SMVT Bengaluru, Krishnarajapura, and Jolarpettai, providing convenient access points for passengers.
Initially, due to maintenance challenges at Mysuru, the train will terminate at SMVT Bengaluru. However, starting from April 5, the service is expected to operate directly between Mysuru and Chennai on a regular basis. “The train will ply between Kalaburagi and SMVB until the establishment of maintenance facilities at Kalaburagi. Post-completion of the necessary work at Kalaburagi, the train operations will be shifted to be handled at Bengaluru cantonment instead of SMVB,” detailed an SWR press release.
The anticipation is building for the inaugural ceremony of these new rail services, slated for March 12 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Currently, Vande Bharat trains link Bengaluru with several major destinations including Hubballi-Dharwad, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Coimbatore, further enhancing the city’s connectivity and facilitating travel for both business and leisure purposes.
