Agency (New Delhi): Union Home Minister Amit Shah clarified on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will continue to lead India even after turning 75. Addressing the media in Hyderabad, Shah dismissed claims made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal about Modi’s retirement, stating that the BJP constitution has no age limit rule for leadership positions.
“Modiji is not only going to complete this term but will continue to lead the country in future. There is no confusion in BJP. They want to create confusion,” Shah said, responding to Kejriwal’s comments on Modi’s impending 75th birthday on September 17.
Shah criticized Kejriwal and the opposition INDIA alliance for suggesting that Modi should retire, emphasizing that there is no such rule in the BJP constitution. “I want to say this to Arvind Kejriwal and company and the entire INDI alliance, you need not rejoice over Modiji turning 75. It’s not written anywhere in the BJP’s constitution,” he reiterated.
The Union Home Minister also condemned Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for questioning the authenticity of surgical strikes conducted by the Indian military. Shah accused Reddy of undermining national pride for the sake of minority votes. “Their greed for minority vote bank has increased so much that they are criticizing surgical strikes,” he remarked. Shah highlighted that the surgical strikes marked a significant moment in Indian military history, making India the third country after the United States and Israel capable of executing such operations.
Shah further criticized Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah for their remarks on PoK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir). He condemned their stance that India should avoid discussing PoK due to Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities. “I strongly condemn this approach. BJP believes that India will never give up its right over PoK as it is an integral part of India,” Shah asserted.
Addressing allegations from Revanth Reddy that Tesla refrained from investing in Telangana due to pressure, Shah attributed it to the state’s corruption. “The way he is running the government in Telangana, I don’t think anyone is going to invest. No one will invest in Telangana because of the environment of rampant corruption in the state,” he claimed. Shah advised that Reddy could have sought the Prime Minister’s assistance if he had any issues.
Regarding the Supreme Court’s interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal, Shah clarified that it was granted only for the election campaign, not as a clean chit. “Arvind Kejriwal has been given interim bail for the election campaign. He prayed in front of the Supreme Court that his arrest was wrong, but the Supreme Court did not agree to it. He filed a petition for bail which was also rejected. The court has given only interim bail till June 1 and on June 2 he has to surrender in front of the agencies. If Arvind Kejriwal considers this as a clean chit, then his understanding of the law is weak,” Shah explained.
