Agency(Gujarat): As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is gearing up with strategic campaign plans in Gujarat and Punjab. Sunita Kejriwal, wife of incarcerated Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is set to join the campaign trail in Gujarat alongside Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, as indicated by party insiders on Tuesday.
AAP has introduced two candidates for the Gujarat elections: Chaitar Vasava from Bharuch and Umesh Makwana from Bhavnagar, with the Congress contesting the remaining 24 seats as per a seat-sharing agreement. Gujarat is scheduled to host its elections in a single phase on May 7, with the nomination deadline on April 19.
In Punjab, AAP has declared four candidates, three of whom are current members of the legislative assembly. These include Pawan Kumar Tinu for Jalandhar, Jagdeep Singh Kaka Brar for Ferozepur, Amansher Singh Kalsi for Gurdaspur, and Ashok Parashar Pappi for Ludhiana. The candidate announcements were made by Sandeep Pathak, the party’s national general secretary, via a post on X.
Amidst election preparations, AAP MP Sanjay Singh relayed a poignant message from Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently detained. Kejriwal’s message was: “My name is Arvind Kejriwal and I am not a terrorist.” This statement came during a press conference where Singh also expressed concerns over the treatment of Kejriwal, suggesting political motivations behind his detention.
The party remains resilient in the face of these challenges, with Singh highlighting the emotional weight of the situation and its implications for their political adversaries. This campaign season is not only a test of electoral strategy for AAP but also a significant emotional and political battle.
