Agency(New Delhi):Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi has raised serious allegations about a plot to jeopardize the health of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while he is detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning the Delhi excise policy case. She asserted that there are attempts to withhold home-cooked meals from Kejriwal in jail.
These accusations followed shortly after the ED presented claims in a Delhi court that Kejriwal had been consuming foods high in sugar, such as mangoes and sweets, despite being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, ostensibly to lay the groundwork for a medical bail application.
Atishi refuted these claims by stating that Kejriwal substitutes white sugar with erythritol, a low-calorie sweetener recommended by his physician, for his tea and sweets. “The BJP people can google it. It is a low-calorie sweetener allowed for diabetics,” she explained during a press conference on Thursday.
Further, she criticized the ED’s portrayal of Kejriwal’s diet in custody, including their comments about him consuming bananas and aloo-puri. She explained that bananas are commonly recommended for diabetics to manage sudden drops in blood sugar, which can be life-threatening. “The ED should be afraid of God for lying so much,” Atishi added, clarifying that Kejriwal only ate puri on the first day of Navratra as per religious observances, and accusing the BJP and ED of spreading falsehoods to justify the cessation of home-cooked meals.
Atishi also disclosed that recently, Kejriwal’s blood sugar levels had exceeded 300 mg/dl, yet he was allegedly being denied insulin by the authorities at Tihar jail, suggesting a deliberate risk to his life by stopping his access to home-cooked food.
Arvind Kejriwal remains in Tihar jail while the central investigation agency examines alleged money laundering activities tied to the now-defunct excise policy of the Delhi government for the year 2021-22. Meanwhile, the AAP faces the challenge of campaigning for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections without its chief leader. Delhi will cast its votes in the sixth phase on May 25, and Punjab, another state governed by AAP, will follow on June 1 during the seventh phase.
