Review Overview

The Aryavarth Express

Dindori, Madhya Pradesh: The Jogitikariya bridge on the Dindori–Jabalpur route has been submerged due to continuous heavy rainfall, causing the Narmada River to overflow. As a result, traffic on both sides has been halted and diverted.

Sub-divisional Police Officer Satish Dwivedi confirmed that the Narmada is currently in spate and flowing over the bridge. “Traffic from both directions has been diverted. Adequate security measures have been implemented with Police, Home Guard, and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams deployed at the site,” he said.

The incident follows a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for several states, including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Goa, warning of extremely heavy rainfall.

According to IMD, a depression over east Madhya Pradesh and north Chhattisgarh is moving westward at around 12 km/h. As of late Saturday night (July 26), it was centered near 23.3°N and 81.0°E—approximately 30 km south-southeast of Umaria, 110 km east of Jabalpur, and 170 km east-southeast of Damoh. The system is expected to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area by Sunday, July 27.

A red alert remains in effect for parts of Madhya Pradesh, including North Seoni, Mandla/Kanha, South Khandwa, and South Khargone, as well as interior Maharashtra districts like Nanded, Parbhani, and Hingoli. These areas may face intense rainfall along with a high risk of cloud-to-ground lightning.

Several other regions, including east Madhya Pradesh, south Gujarat, east Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, south Kerala, south Chhattisgarh, southeast Uttar Pradesh (Kanpur), and parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Gangetic West Bengal, are under an orange alert for moderate rainfall and potential lightning activity.
