New Delhi: A woman from Manipur was allegedly assaulted on Sunday evening near the Saket District Court Complex in South Delhi after she objected to harassment by a group of men.

According to reports, the woman was walking in a park with her friends when a group of men allegedly made inappropriate remarks toward them. When one of the women objected to the comments, the situation reportedly escalated and she was assaulted by the group.

The injured woman was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination and treatment. Preliminary reports suggest she suffered minor injuries and is expected to recover soon.

Police officials said they have contacted the victim and an investigation into the incident is underway.

The development comes weeks after another case involving alleged racial abuse against women from the Northeast in Delhi. On February 20, three women from Arunachal Pradesh accused a couple in Malviya Nagar of racial harassment and criminal intimidation inside their residential complex.

Following the complaint, Delhi Police arrested the accused couple and they were later sent to 14-day judicial custody.

Police said an FIR was registered at Malviya Nagar Police Station under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 79 (words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a woman), Section 351(2) (criminal intimidation), Section 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds such as race or place of birth), and Section 3(5) related to acts done by several persons with common intention.

Authorities added that relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act have also been invoked during the investigation. The probe is currently being handled by an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and is being closely monitored by senior officials.
