Srinagar: In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of several innocent tourists on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Srinagar on Wednesday to meet the grieving families of the victims outside the Police Control Room.
Prior to the meeting, Shah paid homage to the victims in an emotional wreath-laying ceremony. The solemn tribute reflected the deep sense of mourning that has gripped the Kashmir Valley and the entire nation. Visibly heartbroken, family members of the victims expressed their anguish to the Home Minister, pleading for justice and sharing the immense pain of their loss.
Joining in the tributes were Congress MP KC Venugopal and Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra, who also paid their respects during the ceremony.
The terror attack, which occurred in the scenic Pahalgam area of Anantnag district, shattered the peace of the popular tourist destination. It stands as one of the most severe attacks in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
Following his interaction with the bereaved families, Amit Shah is expected to visit Pahalgam, the site of the attack. Meanwhile, security forces have intensified their presence in the region, particularly around Baisaran meadow, where the attack unfolded. Army personnel have been deployed to ensure safety and prevent further violence.
In a unified response to the tragedy, political parties and local trade unions across the Kashmir Valley have announced a complete shutdown today. The move is intended as a gesture of solidarity with the victims’ families and a strong condemnation of the act of terror.
On Tuesday evening, shortly after arriving in Srinagar, the Home Minister convened a high-level security meeting with top officials and intelligence agencies. He vowed that those responsible for the heinous attack would be brought to justice without delay.
