Agency(Chennai): In a significant enhancement to the Indian Railways’ service offerings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has virtually flagged off a new Vande Bharat Express train, facilitating a direct connection between Chennai and Mysuru. This marks the launch of the second exclusive Vande Bharat service on this route, underlining the Indian government’s commitment to modernizing and improving the country’s railway infrastructure.
The inaugural run of the Vande Bharat train (Train No 20663/20664) is scheduled to start on March 14, 2024, initially operating between Dr MGR Chennai Central and SMVT Bengaluru, with designated stops at Katpadi and Krishnarajapuram stations. From April 5, 2024, the service will extend to Mysuru, incorporating additional stops at KSR Bengaluru and Mandya, as per an announcement from Southern Railway.
This new service aims to cater to the diverse needs of professionals, business individuals, and students who frequently travel across the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysuru corridor. The introduction of the Vande Bharat train on this route is expected to significantly enhance travel convenience and efficiency, offering a premium travel experience to its passengers.
The launch event, held in Ahmedabad via video link, saw the Prime Minister unveil railway projects worth Rs 85,000 crore, including the introduction of 10 new Vande Bharat train services. The event was attended by Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan, and senior railway officials at the Dr MGR Chennai Central railway station.
The expansion of the Vande Bharat Express services underscores the Indian government’s dedication to fortifying the rail network, providing state-of-the-art amenities, and bolstering the overall travel experience for passengers. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote sustainable and efficient modes of transportation across the nation.
