Agency(New Delhi):IndiGo Airlines has recently addressed accusations from Revant Himatsingka, a health influencer on social media platform X, regarding the high sodium content in their in-flight meals. The airline emphasized that their food preparation adheres strictly to the guidelines set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Himatsingka, who operates under the username foodpharmer on X, released a video critiquing the sodium levels in various dishes served by IndiGo. He highlighted that IndiGo’s Magic Upma contains 50% more sodium than Maggi noodles, their Poha has 83% more, and their Daal Chawal matches the sodium content of Maggi. These comparisons have stirred considerable attention online.
In his viral post, Himatsingka argued against the misconception that dishes such as Upma, Poha, and Daal Chawal are inherently healthy, cautioning that even foods perceived as healthy can be harmful if they disguise unhealthy contents. He warned that excessive sodium intake is prevalent in India and could lead to serious health issues such as hypertension and heart disease.
In response, IndiGo has reiterated that their meal offerings, including pre-packaged foods and freshly prepared options available for pre-booking on flights, meet all regulatory food safety standards. They source their in-flight meals from reputable suppliers to ensure quality and transparency, including detailed labeling of ingredients and nutritional content as mandated by the FSSAI.
The airline also stated that the nutritional information provided on their meal packages serves as a guide to help passengers make informed choices about their diet while on board.
