Agency(New Delhi): Passengers on an IndiGo flight from Ayodhya to Delhi endured a distressing ordeal when their plane was diverted to Chandigarh and landed with barely two minutes of fuel remaining. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has raised serious questions about the airline’s safety measures and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner (Crime) Satish Kumar, who was aboard flight 6E2702, detailed the tense moments on social media. The flight, scheduled to leave Ayodhya at 3:25 p.m. and arrive in Delhi by 4:30 p.m., encountered severe weather, prompting the pilot to hold the aircraft in the air significantly longer than planned.
Initially, the pilot reported 45 minutes of holding fuel available, but after failed landing attempts at Delhi airport and prolonged decision-making, the plane was redirected to Chandigarh. This decision came after an alarming 75 minutes had passed from the initial fuel status update. The flight finally landed at 6:10 p.m., 115 minutes after the fuel announcement, during which time passengers and a crew member became visibly distressed and sick.
Kumar’s recount of the flight’s final moments before landing has spurred him to call for an investigation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation into whether the flight crew followed all required safety protocols. As the aviation community and public await a response from IndiGo, the incident has sparked a broader discussion on flight safety and operational standards on social media platforms.
