Agency(Bengaluru): Air India has introduced self-service check-in and baggage drop options for passengers flying from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru to San Francisco. This move makes Air India the pioneer in providing such automated services for travelers heading to the United States from India.
This innovation is part of Air India’s broader strategy to enhance passenger experience, particularly targeting the tech-savvy individuals traveling between the tech capitals of India and the U.S. The airline aims to streamline the airport process, offering a smoother and quicker way to board flights without the hassle of traditional check-in queues.
Donald Hunter, the Head of Global Airport Operations and Ground Handling at Air India, during the inauguration, highlighted the airline’s commitment to improving customer service. He noted that the self-service options are designed to reduce waiting times significantly, thereby enhancing the overall pre-boarding process for passengers. Hunter also mentioned ongoing plans to expand this service to other Indian and international airports, with immediate plans to include flights to Singapore and Male.
The self-service facilities allow passengers to independently print their boarding passes and baggage tags, select preferred seats, update frequent flyer information, and drop off their luggage at designated areas. This development is not only expected to save time for passengers but also provide them with a more personalized and enjoyable travel experience. Air India’s initiative reflects its focus on leveraging technology to meet the needs of modern travelers, particularly those traveling from Bengaluru, widely regarded as the Silicon Valley of India, to San Francisco, the global tech hub.
