The event, conducted at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi, brought together leading figures from the Ayush sector, highlighting its potential as India’s soft power on the world stage.
Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, addressed the roundtable with optimism about the sector’s growth, attributing it to the increasing influx of entrepreneurs. He emphasized the evolution of Ayush from wellness to therapeutic wellness and stressed the importance of establishing Pharmacovigilance systems to guarantee the safety of Ayush products. Kotecha also discussed the Ayush sector’s rich resources, including skilled professionals, infrastructure, and various schemes, which are driving its advancement.
The event also highlighted the significance of India’s substantial domestic market in medical value travel and the formulation of state-specific Ayush policies. Kotecha called for simplifying Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) processes to boost research and development in the sector. Dr. Tanuja Nesari, Director of AIIA, underscored the global reach of Ayush through the establishment of GCTM and the transformative role of technology in traditional medicine.
Key industry leaders from diverse Ayush sub-sectors like drug manufacturing, nutraceuticals, and cosmeceuticals attended the roundtable. Discussions centered around Ayush’s global importance and the need to work closely with the Ministry of Ayush and Invest India to expand investment projects in the sector. Ms. Nivruti Rai, MD & CEO of Invest India, emphasized the ‘glocal’ approach – sourcing locally and selling globally, in line with the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ initiatives.
The roundtable was a convergence of CXOs and leaders from across the Ayush value chain, representing stages from raw material sourcing to consumer products. It showcased Ayush as a key player in global health, emphasizing the need for investment in high-quality supply chains and collaboration with international partners.
Discussions at the roundtable explored various investable opportunities, regulatory aspects, and ways to amplify Ayush’s global market presence. The event facilitated meaningful exchanges and sharing of best practices, aligning global demand with India’s supply strengths. This initiative is a step towards realizing the Prime Minister’s vision of making India a leading player in traditional medicine, both domestically and globally, thereby enhancing the country’s soft power.
