Agency(New Delhi): In a significant move towards women’s health and empowerment, Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, has announced a vaccination program to prevent cervical cancer. This announcement was made during the presentation of the Interim Budget 2024-25 in Parliament, aligning with the government’s vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047 and bolstering ‘Nari Shakti’ (Women’s Power).
The vaccination program is targeted at girls in the age group of 9 to 14 years, with the government set to encourage this vaccination among eligible categories. This initiative is a critical step in safeguarding the health of young girls and reducing the risk of cervical cancer, a major health concern for women.
Additionally, the Union Finance Minister proposed the amalgamation of various schemes for maternal and child care into one comprehensive program. This integration aims to enhance the efficiency and impact of these initiatives. The upgrade of Anganwadi Centres under ‘Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0’ is also set to be expedited, with a focus on improving nutrition delivery, early childhood care, and development.
In line with the Digital India initiative, Smt. Sitharaman also proposed the expedited rollout of the newly designed U-WIN platform across the country. This platform will manage immunization programs and support the efforts under Mission Indradhanush, further strengthening the government’s digital health initiatives.
