Agency (New Delhi): The Supreme Court has directed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to approach the Chief Justice of India (CJI) to request an extension of his interim bail in the liquor policy case.
When Kejriwal’s plea was brought before the court, a bench comprising Justices J.K. Maheshwari and K.V. Viswanathan declined to accept it, noting that the matter had already been heard and a judgment was reserved. The bench suggested that the Delhi CM approach the CJI’s bench for appropriate orders, as reported by LiveLaw.
Kejriwal sought an extension of his interim bail by seven days on health grounds, stating that he needed to undergo medical tests. His current interim bail is set to expire on June 1.
Previously, on May 10, the Supreme Court had granted the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader interim bail for 21 days to enable him to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. However, the court restricted him from visiting his office, the Delhi secretariat, or signing official documents unless it was absolutely necessary for obtaining the lieutenant governor’s approval.
Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case related to the alleged scam in the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy. This case continues to draw significant attention and highlights ongoing legal and political battles.
For further action, Kejriwal will need to present his plea to the CJI’s bench to seek any extension of his interim bail.
