Agency(New Delhi): Union Home Minister Amit Shah, speaking at the Valedictory Ceremony of the CLEA-Commonwealth Attorneys and Solicitors General Conference (CAGSC-24) in New Delhi, underscored the importance of integrating technology into the judicial system. He stressed that the application of technology is crucial for making the justice system accessible, affordable, and accountable.
Shah highlighted the need for the judiciary to evolve in response to cross-border challenges, emphasizing that the 21st-century justice system cannot rely on 19th-century laws. He pointed out that the implementation of new criminal justice system laws in India, which incorporate technology, will make India’s system one of the most modern in the world.
The conference, held at Vigyan Bhawan, focused on “Cross-Border Challenges in Justice Delivery”. Discussions revolved around various law and justice issues, including judicial transition, executive accountability, and the modernization of legal education. President Droupadi Murmu also attended the event.
Shah mentioned that the central government has integrated technology in the newly passed criminal laws. This includes provisions for evidence-based prosecution and mandatory visits by the Scientific Officer of Forensic Science Laboratories (FSL) in cases with a punishment of seven years or more. He noted that the infrastructure and human resource preparation for FSL University have been completed ahead of these laws coming into effect.
Concluding his address, Shah expressed confidence that the implementation of these three new criminal laws would significantly advance India’s judiciary system. He assured that the country is prepared to move forward with these changes immediately after the laws are implemented nationwide. This initiative reflects a significant step towards modernizing India’s legal framework and enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of its judicial processes.
