Agency(New Delhi): The Ministry of Coal is gearing up to hold an industry interaction in Hyderabad on the 16th of February, 2024, with the goal of advancing coal and lignite gasification projects across India. This initiative represents a concerted effort by the government to optimize the country’s abundant coal and lignite reserves for cleaner energy production.
In an ambitious move, the Government of India has approved a significant investment scheme, earmarking Rs. 8,500 crore to support coal and lignite gasification projects. The funding is categorized to benefit various sectors, including Government PSUs, private entities, and small-scale projects.
The promotion of such gasification projects is in line with the government’s strategy to diversify the nation’s energy portfolio, diminish the reliance on energy imports, and address environmental concerns through the adoption of more sustainable technology.
Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Secretary of the Ministry of Coal, will preside over the event as the Chief Guest, with Shri P.M. Prasad, Chairman of Coal India Limited, also in attendance. The event is expected to convene a spectrum of stakeholders, from policymakers to industry magnates and investors, to discuss the expansive potential of coal and lignite gasification.
