Agency (New Delhi): In the backdrop of escalating farmers’ protests in Delhi, Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda called for peace and continued dialogue. Addressing the farmers and their organizations involved in the protests, Munda emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and working collaboratively towards solutions.
The appeal comes amidst the farmers’ rejection of the government’s proposal to purchase crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP). Munda expressed the government’s openness to constructive opinions and stressed the need for discussions to find fruitful solutions.
The situation intensified as farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher criticized the government’s efforts to prevent farmers from entering Delhi for the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march scheduled on February 21. Pandher condemned the use of force against the protesters and held the government accountable for any ensuing consequences.
Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, in a press conference, stated that the government’s proposal on MSP was inadequate and did not favor the farmers. He expressed the farmers’ need for legal guarantees on MSP to prevent exploitation.
Despite the fourth round of talks between ministers and farmer leaders yielding no conclusive results, General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Sarvan Singh Pandher affirmed the continuation of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march. The farmers demand legal guarantees for MSPs, loan waivers, and other issues.
This ongoing conflict between the government and farmers underscores the complexity of agricultural reforms and the necessity for mutual understanding and agreement.
