Agency (Bengaluru): In honor of International Women’s Day, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar joined ISRO scientists in celebrating the space agency’s culture of gender diversity and inclusivity in decision-making, lauding it for setting a worthy example for other organizations. “India’s “Rocket Women” are taking us to new heights; they have shattered barriers for themselves and our advancement beyond previous benchmarks,” he declared on Friday during a meeting with the scientific community at ISRO’s U R Rao Satellite Centre in this city. Together with ISRO scientists, he also observed Women’s Day and declared, “A woman is always in a leadership role right from birth.” Honoring the “indomitable spirit and contribution” of women scientists in India, Dhankhar stated that ISRO embodies the 2024 International Women’s Day theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.”
“It is noteworthy that approximately 20% of ISRO’s workforce consists of women in scientific and technical fields, and over 500 female employees hold leadership positions in various managerial and administrative capacities, including overseeing a center,” the speaker stated. Declaring it an honor to be in Bengaluru at “the heart of India’s space exploration prowess,” he praised the ISRO family for their extraordinary talent and dedication in helping to define India’s creativity and technological leap on a global scale.
The Vice-President praised ISRO for its many accomplishments, citing Chandrayan-3 and the successful launch of multiple foreign satellites as examples. He also noted that ISRO has improved the lives of millions of people worldwide while showcasing our scientific and technological prowess. He noted that ISRO’s achievements have sparked public curiosity and made space technology accessible to all households. He also commended ISRO for its assistance with early warning systems, disaster management, and government initiatives like the “PM Fasal Bima Yojana” and “PM Awas Yojana.” “”With over eight million viewers, the Chandrayan-3 launch broke the internet (record) and became one of the most watched live streams on YouTube,” he said.
In highlighting the importance of space exploration and technology utilization for the realization of “Viksit Bharat@2047,” he praised ISRO for becoming a major player and contributing to the development of India’s soft power and international diplomacy.
