Agency(New Delhi): The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, is set to inaugurate the ‘Purple Fest’ at Amrit Udyaan in Rashtrapati Bhawan today, following the successful ‘International Purple Fest, 2024’ held in Goa earlier this year. The ‘Purple Fest’ is organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. This event, part of the celebrations for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and G20-India-2023, aims to promote inclusion and accessibility for persons with disabilities.
More than 10,000 individuals with disabilities, known as Divyangjan, accompanied by their escorts, are expected to attend this one-day event at the majestic venue. The Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, along with the Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), will also be present. The Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities has been named as the nodal agency for the festival.
The ‘Purple Fest’ is designed to be a fully inclusive event, featuring interactive stalls from various organizations dedicated to accessibility, inclusion, and disability rights. The fest will offer a variety of activities, including an Amrit Udyaan tour, sessions on understanding disabilities, the Purple Cafe, the Purple Kaleidoscope, a Purple Live Experience Zone, and Purple Sports.
In addition to the festivities, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the Rashtrapati Bhavan museum, embarking on a journey of discovery and learning, all while embracing the principles of inclusivity. The fest not only provides entertainment but also serves as a platform for sharing ideas and insights towards building a more inclusive and accessible society. It aims to raise awareness about the different types of disabilities, their impact on people’s lives, and to challenge the misconceptions, prejudices, stigma, and stereotypes surrounding disabilities. The ultimate goal is to foster understanding, acceptance, and inclusion of persons with disabilities within society.
