Cuttack (Agency): On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to the courageous heroes of the Kargil War in Cuttack. She honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country during the 1999 conflict with Pakistan, highlighting the valor of Padmapani Acharya from Odisha, who was bestowed with the Mahavir Chakra.
During the valedictory function of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Orissa High Court, the President called upon all those associated with the legal system to ensure the swift dispensation of justice and set an example for the nation.
In her address, President Murmu expressed the nation’s gratitude and reverence for the extraordinary valor displayed by the armed forces during the Kargil War. She paid tribute to the brave fighters who sacrificed their lives to protect the country, stating that their heroic stories would continue to inspire future generations.
President Murmu urged for expedited trials to free innocent individuals who are languishing in jails on minor charges. She stressed the importance of timely justice, emphasizing that delays not only affect the victims but also diminish their hopes of seeing the guilty being punished during their lifetime.
Drawing attention to the failures in the justice delivery system, the President urged judges to fulfill their fundamental duties. She reminded the legal fraternity of the Constitution’s priority to deliver justice to socially and economically underprivileged sections of society and called for deeper contemplation on ensuring access to justice for these marginalized communities.
During her visit to her home state, President Murmu commended the Orissa High Court for its progress in the past 75 years and acknowledged its efforts to incorporate technological advancements in the justice delivery system. She highlighted the importance of adapting to nature, particularly in the face of natural calamities, and called for prioritizing environment and wildlife protection in the judiciary’s agenda.
As a token of remembrance, the President also released a souvenir on the occasion.
