New Delhi (Agency): In a major breakthrough, the Faridabad Police has successfully dismantled a gang operating a fake call centre and deceiving individuals with false promises of increasing their credit card limits. The arrests of six individuals were made on Saturday from a phony call centre located in Gurugram’s Sector 18.
The action was carried out by the Cyber Police Station Central team in Faridabad. The accused, identified as Shubham, Vikas, Abhishek, Rohit, Ajay, and Manish, hail from various regions across India, including Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, Bijnaur in Uttar Pradesh, Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, and Saharsa in Bihar. While Shubham, Manish, and Ajay were residing in Gurugram, Vikas and Abhishek were based in Faridabad, and Rohit lived in Delhi.
According to the police, the gang had defrauded nearly 200 individuals across Delhi-NCR, amounting to approximately Rs 70 lakh. The fraudulent operation involved promising victims an increase in their credit card limits and requesting personal information for updating purposes.
During the arrests, the police recovered a significant amount of evidence, including 60 mobile phones, 52 SIM cards, 16 cheque books, six passbooks, 18 debit cards, and Rs 17,500 in cash.
Abhimanyu Goyat, ACP Cyber, revealed that the gang was exposed following a complaint filed by Gyan Prakash, a resident of Old Faridabad, who fell victim to their scheme, losing Rs 25,914. Acting swiftly, the police registered an FIR at the Cyber Police Station Ballabgarh and launched a manhunt to apprehend the culprits.
“Our cyber crime team busted their call centre which was being run in Gurugram and arrested all the six accused on Saturday. Accused Manish is the mastermind of the gang. Accused Vikas and Abhishek used to trap people by making calls. Ajay used to withdraw money while Shubham works as a supervisor and used to provide data of prospective targets. Rohit was the team leader while Manish had the work of monitoring. We have taken the accused on a three-day police remand after they were produced before a city court. They are being questioned,” explained ACP Abhimanyu Goyat.
The police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the operations of the fake call centre and are interrogating the arrested individuals to gather further information. The swift action taken by the Faridabad Police serves as a warning to fraudsters and a reminder of the importance of vigilance in protecting oneself from such scams.
