Agency (New Delhi): In a recent address at the start of Parliament’s Budget Session, the Prime Minister of India highlighted the significant strides made in empowering women in the nation. The address, originally delivered in Hindi, was translated into English and shared by the Press Information Bureau, New Delhi, on January 31, 2024.
The Prime Minister began by recalling the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a landmark decision made in the new Parliament building. This initiative was further exemplified by the powerful display of women’s strength and determination on January 26th, during the ‘Kartavya Path’ event. The President of India, Droupadi Murmu ji’s guidance at the session’s opening, and the upcoming Interim Budget presentation by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, were cited as examples of women’s growing influence in national affairs.
Reflecting on the past decade, the Prime Minister acknowledged the contributions of all Parliament members, while also critiquing those who have consistently disrupted proceedings and undermined democratic values. He emphasized that the public tends to remember those who have contributed constructively, rather than those engaging in negativity and disorder. The Prime Minister urged MPs to seize the opportunity of the current session to leave a positive impact and contribute valuable ideas, emphasizing the significance of their words in shaping the country’s history.
He also mentioned the tradition of not presenting a complete budget when elections are near, stating that the full budget would be presented after forming the new government. However, he assured that the Finance Minister would provide some guiding points in her budget presentation the following day.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence in India’s continual progression towards development and inclusive growth. He emphasized the importance of public support in maintaining this trajectory and concluded his speech with a hopeful note for the future.
This speech, serving as a call for positive action and a reminder of the significant role women play in shaping democracy, underlines the government’s commitment to inclusive development and responsible governance.
