Bengaluru (Aryavarth): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has responded to opposition accusations that the government is improperly using Central agencies, such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He clarified that only 3% of the ED’s cases involve political figures, while the vast majority concern bureaucrats and criminals.
In an exclusive interview with Hindustan, Modi explained that the allegations of the government targeting only political opponents are unfounded and propagated by those under investigation. He emphasized that the ED has been effective against corruption, attaching assets worth over ₹1 lakh crore in the last decade, a significant increase from the ₹5,000 crores attached before 2014. He pointed out the potential benefits of these recoveries, such as funding welfare schemes and infrastructure projects that could aid the poor and create youth opportunities.
Furthermore, Modi commented on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections starting April 19, noting a lack of enthusiasm among the opposition due to their anticipated defeat. He claimed that opposition leaders are avoiding the campaign trail, and some are preemptively criticizing the electronic voting machines (EVMs).
The Prime Minister contrasted the BJP’s governance model with that of the Congress, noting that while Congress focused on familial power, the BJP has aimed to strengthen the nation, including villages, farmers, and the middle class. He highlighted public support for a third BJP term, mentioning widespread campaign efforts and the slogan “Phir Ek Baar, Modi Sarkar” (Once More, Modi Government), emphasizing the unique global phenomenon of continued popular support after a decade in power.
