New Delhi (Agency): In an exclusive interview conducted by Editor-in-Chief Vijay Joshi and senior editors of PTI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delved into key global issues and shared his perspectives on diverse subjects, from climate change and cybersecurity to the role of multilateral institutions like the G-20.
Responding to questions about India’s approach to climate change, PM Modi highlighted the significance of diversity, both in society and the energy mix. He noted that India, despite having 17% of the world’s population, has contributed less than 5% of cumulative emissions. While ensuring growth, India remains committed to climate goals and is collaborating with other nations to shift from a restrictive to a constructive approach. Rather than focusing solely on what not to do, PM Modi stressed the importance of enabling actions that individuals and nations can take to combat climate change effectively.
PM Modi emphasized the severity of cyber threats, beyond financial losses, which also extend to social, geopolitical, and even ideological implications. The use of technology by terrorist organizations for radicalization, fund movement, and other illicit activities poses complex challenges. He acknowledged the need for comprehensive international cooperation in countering these threats. PM Modi shared insights from the G20 Conference on Crime and Security, which addressed the evolving landscape of cyber threats and emphasized the importance of coordination and prevention strategies.
Discussing the role of multilateral institutions like the G-20, PM Modi stressed the necessity for these institutions to evolve with changing times. Institutions must adapt to remain relevant and ensure a fair, rules-based order that accommodates all concerns. India’s Presidency of the G-20 comes at a crucial juncture, providing an opportunity to contribute to innovative solutions and shape the global future. PM Modi highlighted India’s unique attributes, including being a diverse nation, a hub of democracy, and a driver of global growth. He emphasized the importance of media in raising awareness about global realities, India’s contributions, and the need for international institutions to reform.
