Agency(Jammu and Kashmir): The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, has mandated the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) to formulate a detailed strategy for the erection of new temples in the Reasi district. This directive came during the 72nd meeting of the SMVDSB held at Raj Bhawan, where a variety of developmental initiatives and progress on numerous agendas aimed at improving services for pilgrims were discussed.
The Board, under Sinha’s chairmanship, deliberated extensively on enhancing the experience of devotees visiting the shrine, resulting in the ratification of 27 agenda items. These included the commencement of a direct helicopter service between Jammu Airport and the Panchhi Helipad near the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine track, aimed at facilitating emergency responses and enriching the pilgrimage journey.
Additionally, plans for a medical college by the Board at Kakryal and the construction of various infrastructural projects were green-lit to bolster the capacity and efficiency of services provided to pilgrims. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the expansion of the Board’s social support activities, specifically the development of new temples in Reasi, signaling a broader vision for spiritual and community development in the region.
The SMVDSB’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability were also highlighted, with the approval of an “Annual Green Plan” for 2024-25. This plan underscores the commitment to enhance the ecological vibrancy of Trikuta Hills through innovative approaches, including the proposed aerial survey and seed dispersal initiatives.
These steps signify a holistic approach towards improving not only the spiritual and cultural infrastructure but also the ecological well-being of the area surrounding one of the most revered shrines in India. The Board’s initiatives align with the broader objectives of promoting religious tourism, environmental sustainability, and community welfare in Jammu and Kashmir.
