New Delhi (Agency): The historic consensus achieved under India’s Presidency emphasizes three pivotal domains – Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), Cybersecurity, and Digital Skills. DPIs garnered global consensus on their definition, framework, and principles for the first time. India’s prowess in employing technological tools for progress has positioned it as a case study, inspiring countries that have lagged behind to follow suit and embrace DPIs as a means of fostering innovation, open-source digital infrastructure, and promoting inclusion. DPIs are particularly recognized as powerful mechanisms for inclusion in the global south.
India’s leadership has also fostered collaboration with nations such as Armenia, Sierra Leone, Suriname, Antigua, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Papua New Guinea, and Mauritius. Through eight Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), India has offered these countries access to the India Stack and DPI, enabling them to leverage these resources for their innovation ecosystems at no cost.
Additionally, the G20 Digital Economy Ministers have addressed the vital issue of cybersecurity. With the digital economy increasingly contributing to global progress, cybersecurity has emerged as a crucial concern for nations striving to safeguard their business environment.
The third area of consensus centers on digital skills. The Minister emphasized that in a post-COVID digital landscape, nurturing digital skills among youth is imperative. Countries recognize the necessity of fostering digital skills to navigate challenges in the evolving tech-driven world, and India’s efforts to create digital-ready talent resonated during the discussions.
India’s G20 leadership has thus paved the way for international collaboration and advancement in digital public infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital skills, ushering in a new era of progress and innovation.
