Agency(New Delhi): Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, has virtually inaugurated three new Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) centers in Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh. These institutions, located in Baddi, Ranchi, and Gwalior respectively, are set to enhance India’s capabilities in the petrochemical sector by providing advanced training and education. This expansion reflects the government’s commitment to meeting the burgeoning needs of the petrochemical industry and promoting self-reliance in this critical sector.
Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the transformative role of CIPET institutes in aligning with the needs of the 21st century and contributing to the realization of the Aatamnirbhar Bharat vision. He highlighted the institutes’ success in offering comprehensive education and training programs, ranging from certificate and diploma courses to undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD levels. This educational breadth has enabled the institutes to supply the petrochemical industry with highly skilled manpower, as well as to engage in pivotal research and production activities.
The Union Minister underscored the significant expansion of CIPET facilities over the last decade, with the number of institutes increasing from 23 to 47. This growth is a strategic response to the petrochemical industry’s evolving demands, ensuring that the sector has access to a skilled workforce and cutting-edge research capabilities. The focus on research and innovation, particularly in areas such as solar cell technology, gas separation, water purification, and polymer research, underscores CIPET’s role in advancing India’s petrochemical industry.
The new CIPET centers in Baddi, Gwalior, and Ranchi are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for education, training, and research. They aim to provide skill development training to unemployed youth, offering courses designed to meet the manpower requirements of the polymer/plastics and allied industries. Additionally, these centers will offer technical support services to promote the polymer and allied industries within their respective regions, thereby contributing to the overall development of India’s petrochemical sector.
These initiatives are part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance India’s industrial and technological capabilities. By investing in the expansion of CIPET institutes, the government is laying the groundwork for sustainable growth in the petrochemical sector, fostering innovation, and ensuring that India remains at the forefront of global advancements in this field.
