New Delhi (Agency): Several high-profile leaders arrived in India on Friday for the much-anticipated G20 Summit. These leaders include US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, among others. Before the formal start of the summit on Saturday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral discussions with some of these leaders.
After these important talks, the leaders were in for a gastronomic treat. They were served an array of vegetarian dishes that reflect the culinary diversity of India. The menu was a delightful mix of traditional and modern flavors.
The guests enjoyed tossed Indian green salad, pasta and grilled vegetable salad, and sundal soup for starters. For the main course, the leaders tasted paneer lababdar, a creamy cottage cheese dish, and potato lyonnaise, a dish featuring potatoes and onions. Other dishes included subz korma, a mixed vegetable curry, kaju matar makhana, a dish made from cashews, peas, and lotus seeds, and penne in arrabiata sauce, an Italian pasta dish with a spicy tomato-based sauce. The meal was rounded off with traditional Indian bread like tandoori roti, butter naan, and kulcha. Complementing these were cucumber raita, tamarind and date chutney, mix pickle, and plain curd.
The G20 Summit is set to commence in New Delhi at the newly opened Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan. This significant event will also feature key officials from major international organizations such as the United Nations, IMF, and the World Bank.
This vegetarian feast not only adds a cultural dimension to the high-level diplomatic event but also serves as an example of India’s rich culinary heritage. It’s a unique way for the country to showcase its diverse food culture to some of the world’s most influential leaders.
