Agency(New Delhi): Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena expressed gratitude towards the Eidgah Imams and the Muslim community for conducting Eid-ul-Fitr prayers within mosque premises, marking a first in Delhi’s history. This move, which avoided the customary street gatherings, was aimed at preventing public inconvenience and promoting communal harmony.
LG Saxena described this development as a significant example of harmony and coexistence, setting a positive precedent for the entire country. He detailed on social media how this decision facilitated smoother traffic flow and ensured safety, with no reports of untoward incidents during the celebrations.
The initiative to hold prayers at staggered times within mosques was discussed and agreed upon in a meeting earlier this month with several of Delhi’s Imams, who responded positively to the suggestion. This planning was instrumental in keeping the city’s streets clear and maintaining a peaceful atmosphere throughout the day.
In his message, the Lieutenant Governor also extended Eid greetings to all and reiterated the importance of dialogue and goodwill in resolving community issues. His acknowledgment and thanks to the Muslim community reflect a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive and considerate urban environment.
