Agency(New Delhi): The Bharat Tex 2024, India’s premier global textile conference, inspired by the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s 5F Vision, concluded its four-day journey on February 29, 2024, in New Delhi. Launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam on February 26, the event drew an unprecedented level of participation from both Indian and international stakeholders, including major brands and retailers.
Organized by an alliance of 11 Textile Export Promotion Councils under the Ministry of Textiles’ aegis, Bharat Tex 2024 was designed around the themes of trade, investment, and sustainability. It attracted 3,500 exhibitors, 3,000 buyers from 111 countries, and over one lakh visitors, showcasing an extensive textile value chain spread across nearly 2 million sq ft. The event was simultaneously held at Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi, with both venues reaching full capacity.
Participants included renowned organizations and brands such as Coach, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Vero Moda, and many more, along with leading Indian corporations like Reliance and Aditya Birla. Multilateral organizations, global think tanks, and textile states with dedicated pavilions, such as Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, also actively participated.
The event featured a CEO roundtable chaired by Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal, discussing the textile sector’s growth prospects. Highlights included a comprehensive farm-to-fibre expo, a Retail High Street, sustainability pavilions, and an Indi-Haat showcasing traditional Indian handicrafts and handlooms. Over 10 fashion shows, art demonstrations, and global fashion trend showcases were among the significant attractions.
The conference comprised 70 sessions with 112 international speakers, delving into textile mega trends, sustainability, and Manufacturing 4.0, among other pressing issues. Over 50 business meetings with global brands and investors were held, focusing on manufacturing investment, R&D, innovation, and sustainability.
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, graced the event on its final day, highlighting the extensive participation and engagement across the sector. Over 10,000 artisans, weavers, students, and NGOs were specially invited, demonstrating the inclusive nature of Bharat Tex 2024.
The event served as a launchpad for various initiatives, including IndiaTEX and the announcement of 63 MoUs focusing on research, innovation, and sustainability collaborations. It also featured the release of a UNEP Report for a Sustainable Textile Hub in India and the announcement of hackathon winners on technical textiles innovation.
Bharat Tex 2024 showcased sustainable initiatives like Kasturi Cotton and waterless dyeing techniques, emphasizing the industry’s move towards eco-friendly practices. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, covering academic collaboration, research, innovation, and market linkage, underscoring the event’s focus on fostering partnerships and advancing the textile industry’s sustainability and innovation agenda.
