Jammu (Agency): In a thoughtful move to support border residents and boost their livelihood, the Indian Army has constructed a unique “fruit and vegetable” sale point near the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir. The sale point, located at Hamirpur village in Bhimber Gali sector, aims to facilitate local residents in buying and selling their produce.
The inauguration of the sale point at Bharwiyani Gali area of Bhimber Gali received praise and appreciation from the locals, who expressed their gratitude towards the Army for this “pro-people” initiative.
In a 1.20-minute video shared on the Twitter handle of PRO, Defence, Jammu, the Army highlighted the purpose and impact of the sale point. The facility enables residents living near the LoC to conveniently buy and sell fruits, vegetables, and ration.
The sarpanch (village head) of Bharuti village, Arif Khan, expressed his admiration for the Army’s thoughtful initiative, describing it as highly beneficial for the local community. He conveyed the positive feedback from the residents who find it easier to bring their produce such as potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and garlic to the sale point.
Before the establishment of the sale point, villagers encountered difficulties in preserving their fruits and vegetables at home, often leading to spoilage. With the sale point now in place, the produce finds customers conveniently along the road, benefiting both those residing near the LoC and ahead of the border fence.
The Army’s pro-active step has garnered appreciation from the locals who acknowledge the positive impact it has on their daily lives and agricultural activities.
