Agency (New Delhi): The Ministry of Tourism, led by Union Minister Shri G.K Reddy, has revealed its plans for the development of tourism destinations across India. The newly launched Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) focuses on creating sustainable and responsible tourism spots. Furthermore, the National Mission on Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) Scheme aims to enhance pilgrimage destinations.
The Ministry of Tourism plays a pivotal role in shaping national tourism policies, coordinating activities between government agencies, state governments/union territories, and the private sector. Their responsibilities encompass policy formulation, planning, regulation, infrastructure development, research, international cooperation, marketing, and more. The ministry extensively promotes Indian tourism through its website, social media platforms, promotional materials, films, and participation in travel fairs/exhibitions globally.
Under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme, a total of 76 projects have been approved. With the revamped Swadesh Darshan 2.0, the focus is on destination-centric development. States and union territories prepare State Perspective Plans in line with scheme guidelines, and the Ministry selects destinations for development. In this iteration, 57 destinations have been identified for development under SD2.0. For details on projects sanctioned under the Swadesh Darshan 1.0 Scheme and PRASHAD Scheme, refer to Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively.
The Ministry’s commitment to promoting India’s diverse tourism offerings is evident through the “Incredible India” brand and media campaigns both domestically and abroad. This comprehensive approach aims to showcase the beauty and cultural richness of India’s tourist destinations and products.
