New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 129th birth anniversary, remembering his courage, leadership, and lasting contribution to India’s freedom struggle. The day is observed nationwide as Parakram Diwas.
Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister highlighted Bose’s indomitable spirit and patriotism. “On the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which is commemorated as Parakram Diwas, we recall his indomitable courage, resolve and unparalleled contribution to the nation,” PM Modi wrote.
Describing Bose as a symbol of fearless leadership, he added, “He epitomised unwavering patriotism. His ideals continue to inspire generations to build a strong India.”
President Droupadi Murmu also paid homage to Netaji, recalling his role in galvanising the Indian freedom movement through the Indian National Army (INA). In her message on X, she said Bose’s call for independence ignited courage, unity, and nationalism among millions of Indians and elevated India’s freedom struggle to the international stage.
“Through the Indian National Army, he provided decisive leadership to India’s freedom movement. His ideals continue to inspire every Indian even today,” the President said.
The central government officially declared January 23 as Parakram Diwas in 2021 to honour Netaji’s legacy. In subsequent years, several initiatives were undertaken to commemorate him, including the unveiling of a hologram statue of Netaji at India Gate in 2022, the naming of 21 islands in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago after Param Vir Chakra awardees in 2023, and the inauguration of a commemorative event at Delhi’s Red Fort in 2024—the historic site of the INA trials.
