Raipur (Chhattisgarh), December 10:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Bhawna Bohra lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “uniting the country,” alleging that Congress had historically divided the nation. Her remarks came while reacting to PM Modi’s address during the special parliamentary discussion on 150 years of Vande Mataram.

Bohra said the Congress views every initiative of the Modi government through a political lens rather than considering the nation’s welfare.
“Whether it is Vande Mataram, triple talaq, NRC or any other reform, Congress objects to every law brought by PM Modi for the country’s benefit,” she told.

She also criticised the Congress for “removing certain verses” from India’s national song, saying that restoring Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s original lines strengthens national integrity.
“We are happy that PM Modi has added the verses back. This enhances the country’s unity,” she said.

Accusing the Congress of sowing divisions across India, including in Bengal, Bohra said PM Modi is working to heal those fractures.
“All the divisions created in the country historically are due to Congress governments and their politicians. Today, India has a Prime Minister who is uniting the nation,” she added.

On the ongoing debate over electoral reforms, Bohra targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the state.
“Everyone knows Mamata didi’s story. During the last elections, not just BJP workers but common people were attacked. What is she afraid of? SIR is being conducted across the country. If someone is not a citizen, they have the chance to submit documents. There is no reason to protest,” she said, adding that the Election Commission is performing its duties effectively.

Responding to suspended Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s allegation that a Chief Minister’s seat can be bought for ₹500 crore, Bohra said such remarks reveal the “mentality and corruption” within the Congress.
“The BJP doesn’t need to say anything. The public is watching,” she commented.

The Lok Sabha debate on 150 years of Vande Mataram earlier saw spirited exchanges between the BJP and opposition parties, with leaders acknowledging the song’s important role during the freedom struggle.

Initiating the debate, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Vande Mataram was a powerful force that inspired India’s independence movement.
“It is a matter of pride that we are celebrating 150 years of Vande Mataram. The song rekindled an idea deeply rooted in India for thousands of years and inspired sacrifice, strength, purity, dedication, and resilience,” he said.
