Gandhinagar: Jivraj na Muvada Primary School in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district has earned national recognition for successfully blending environmental conservation with education. The school has been awarded the prestigious ‘Green School Award 2025’ under the Green Your School Program organised by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
The award was presented at a national-level event held in Mumbai, where the school was also granted an incentive of ₹3 lakh for implementing 11 innovative green initiatives. With more than 1,200 trees on its campus, the school has emerged as a model for sustainable and eco-friendly education, according to an official release.
The Green Building Council event was organised in November 2025 at the Jio World Convention Centre, Mumbai, as a joint initiative of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the World Green Building Council, the Confederation of Indian Industry, and the Indian Green Building Council.
This year, 720 schools from across the country participated in the Green Your School Program. Schools from Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh and Puducherry secured the top three positions, with Jivraj na Muvada Primary School representing Gujarat.
On November 26, 2025, three shortlisted schools made presentations before the jury in Mumbai. Students Meet Thakor, Yami Thakor and Jignesh Zala from Jivraj na Muvada Primary School, Dehgam taluka, delivered a detailed presentation on the school’s green initiatives and ongoing projects. The presentation was prepared under the guidance of the State Education Department, school principal Bipin Goswami, and teachers.
The school presented 11 innovative ideas, including homemade jeevamrit, paper recycling, mood painting, an earthen pot air-cooling system, a portable biogas plant, a plastic-free school concept, smart energy audits, grey water management, a solar water pump, Neki Ki Deewar, and Red Book data. These initiatives are slated for further implementation in the coming period.
The school has also been making sustained efforts in energy, water and waste management. Its “Plastic-Free School, Plastic-Free Village” initiative previously earned it the State Government’s Climate Change Award in 2024. As part of its eco-conscious culture, students exchange saplings instead of chocolates, nurturing the plants throughout their schooling.
In addition, students have created innovative models—such as fighter planes, satellites, windmills, globes and hydroponic systems—using waste materials. Activities like maintaining a butterfly garden and a kitchen garden further highlight the school’s commitment to environmental conservation, setting an inspiring example of sustainable education at the grassroots level.
