A New Year’s celebration turned tragic in Bhavani Nagar under the Jagathgiri Gutta police station limits, where one person died and 12 others were hospitalised after allegedly consuming contaminated food.
According to police, residents of the same locality had organised a New Year’s party and cooked chicken and fish at home. After returning to their homes, several participants complained of severe illness, suspected to be due to food poisoning.
A 53-year-old man, identified as Pandu, succumbed to the illness, while 12 others were rushed to a hospital. Police said all those hospitalised are residents of the same colony and are currently in stable condition.
A Jagathgiri Gutta police official stated that the incident occurred after the group shared the food during the celebrations. “They experienced food poisoning after the party. One person died, and twelve others were admitted to the hospital. Their condition is normal now,” the official said.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the suspected food poisoning.
