New Delhi: India’s automobile industry is gearing up for a busy start to 2026, with several leading manufacturers planning high-profile launches across both electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) segments. Carmakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, Kia, Renault, Hyundai, and Mahindra are set to introduce new models and refreshed versions of popular vehicles in a bid to strengthen their market presence.
In the mid-size SUV segment, Kia India has already rolled out the second-generation All-New Kia Seltos, with prices starting at ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated model is larger than its predecessor, measuring 4,460 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,690 mm, offering improved cabin space. Kia India Managing Director and CEO Gwanggu Lee said the new generation aims to redefine the segment by enhancing space, safety, technology, and overall ownership experience.
Hyundai Motor India Limited has expanded its VENUE lineup with the introduction of the HX5+ variant, priced at ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, the new variant adds features such as quad-beam LED headlamps and a wireless smartphone charger. Hyundai MD and CEO Tarun Garg said the VENUE has already received over 50,000 bookings, and the new variant further strengthens its value proposition.
On the electric mobility front, Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch its first EV, the e-Vitara, this month. The electric SUV is likely to feature a minimalist design and come equipped with a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, and ventilated front seats. It is expected to be offered with two battery options—48.8 kWh and 61.1 kWh—delivering a claimed range of up to 500 km on a single charge.
Tata Motors is also preparing to introduce the Sierra EV early in 2026. Built on the new Acti.ev+ platform, the electric SUV is expected to offer a range of around 500 km and may include an all-wheel-drive option, marking the return of the iconic Sierra nameplate in an electric avatar.
Among ICE models, Renault is likely to debut the new-generation Duster on January 26, featuring a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Mahindra, meanwhile, has announced the launch of the XUV 7XO on January 5. The model is a refreshed version of the XUV700, borrowing design cues and features from the XEV 9S while retaining a conventional internal combustion engine.
With a mix of electric innovations and upgraded SUVs, early 2026 is shaping up to be a highly competitive and transformative period for India’s automotive market.
