Agency(New Delhi): During the 125th Foundation Day celebration of Hindu College, the Vice-President delivered a stirring address, underscoring the institution’s historical significance and its contributions to India’s freedom struggle and post-independence development. He expressed his delight and honor in being part of such a momentous occasion at an institution renowned for its legacy of serving the nation and nurturing nationalism.
The Vice-President emphasized India’s rich civilizational ethos, spanning over 5000 years, and the country’s ongoing journey during the Amrit Kaal. He projected optimism and confidence in India’s future, particularly in achieving a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (developed India), driven by the contributions of the youth.
Reflecting on his own parliamentary journey since 1989, the Vice-President noted the current era as one of hope and possibility, highlighting the youth as significant stakeholders in governance. He recognized the changes in governance, emphasizing the availability of a wholesome ecosystem that supports the youth in realizing their dreams and aspirations. He pointed out the eradication of systemic corruption and patronage, which he described as detrimental to young minds and antithetical to merit and stability.
The Vice-President focused on the transformative initiatives ensuring equality before the law and the end of immunity from legal accountability, especially for those in positions of power. He stressed the importance of respect for law as fundamental to nationalism, democracy, meritocracy, and curbing corruption.
Highlighting India’s economic rise, he noted the country’s transition from being considered a burden on the global economy to becoming one of the top five global economies, surpassing nations like Canada, the UK, and France. He projected India to soon become the third-largest global economy. The Vice-President also emphasized India’s strengthened national image and its role as a voice for the global South.
Addressing the youth, he called them the marathon runners of Bharat@2047, urging them to pursue the march to Viksit Bharat passionately. He acknowledged the vast opportunities available to them in a resilient financial ecosystem, including India’s leadership in digital payments and technology.
The Vice-President spoke about the era of disruptive technologies and the importance of regulating them for societal benefit. He encouraged the youth to embrace these technological advancements, which will define industries, security, and lifestyle.
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of resilience in the face of setbacks, urging the youth not to fear failure but to see it as a stepping stone to success. The Vice-President also appealed to the youth to counter anti-national narratives and to be the agents of change and governance custodians, leading India towards its envisioned future.
