Agency (New Delhi): Union Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated the National Conference on APAAR: One Nation One Student ID Card in New Delhi, marking a significant step in India’s educational digitalization. The conference was attended by key figures in the education sector, including Shri Sanjay K. Murthy, Shri Sanjay Kumar, Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Shri S. Krishnan, Dr. Nirmaljeet Singh Kalsi, Prof. Anil Sahasrabudhe, along with Vice Chancellors, Directors, Registrars, and Controllers of Examinations from various institutions, senior officials, and industry partners.
Shri Pradhan highlighted the APAAR ID as an aspirational global document for students, emphasizing its significance in the digital era. He lauded the development of Digital Public Infrastructures (DPIs) in India, noting that the country hosts 19 out of 53 global DPIs. He thanked Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for his vision of a Digital India, which is now gaining full momentum with 25 crore APAAR IDs already created. The integration of APAAR IDs with the Academic Bank of Credit and Digilocker was also emphasized, promoting ease of operations.
The importance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in facilitating migration and integration without compromising education quality was also underscored. Shri Pradhan stressed the need for making competency aspirational through skilling and knowledge.
Shri Sanjay Kumar spoke about the extensive reach of the APAAR ID, reflecting on NEP2020’s vision of ensuring 100% Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) till Class 12 and proficiency in at least one skill. He highlighted the role of APAAR in tracking the progress of 260 million students in India, mentioning the linkage of the Permanent Education Number with APAAR ID.
Shri K. Sanjay Murthy discussed the advantages of APAAR IDs and the deployment of Samarth, another crucial DPI. He urged educational institutions to adopt the Samarth platform and informed about the upcoming version of the Swayam platform, which will include content from leading industries.
The event included two panel discussions focusing on integrating APAAR ID and Credit Systems with Job Profiles and exploring the evolving role of DigiLocker in education.
The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) is a groundbreaking initiative aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Credit and Qualifications Framework (NCrF).
