New Delhi (Agency): In a modern shift, Delhi’s government-run schools will now monitor student attendance online. According to an official announcement, class teachers will use electronic devices, such as tablets or school computer systems, to mark students’ attendance. This change emphasizes the importance of accuracy in record-keeping, as traditional manual methods will no longer be valid.
The Delhi government’s Directorate of Education (DoE) mentioned, “Online attendance records will be considered final for examinations. The attendance data of the students submitted online by the class teacher and school will be reflected at HQ level.” This signifies that the attendance marked online is not just for daily records but also plays a role in students’ final examinations.
Educational authorities believe that it’s vital for students to regularly attend school and actively participate in their studies. Thus, ensuring accurate attendance is essential. To strengthen the connection between home and school, school heads have been instructed to foster a “positive home-school relationship”. This can be done through direct phone calls to the students’ families and the use of digital communication. The DoE suggested employing various communication tools such as SMS, WhatsApp, and email.
In addition to these changes, the DoE circular highlighted the importance of regular parent-teacher meetings (PTMs). It stated, “PTM will be held on every Saturday excluding the Second Saturday and holidays after the school hours.” During these meetings, schools are tasked with providing parents an analysis comparing their child’s attendance with others. This is especially for students who might miss more than three school days within a week.
These changes aim to bring accuracy to attendance records, hold students accountable for their school presence, and promote an active relationship between schools and families. The new system not only leverages technology for efficient operations but also emphasizes the significance of regular school attendance in a student’s educational journey.
