New Delhi (Agency): The government colleges in Coimbatore are all set to kick off the 2023-24 academic session for postgraduate (PG) students starting September 13. The admission process has been completed, and the colleges are prepared to welcome the new batch of students.
The Government Arts College in Coimbatore has admitted students into 20 different PG programs available in shift I and II. Principal R. Ulagi confirmed that admission counseling for both special quota and general category students was conducted on September 8. The sanctioned student strength of 557 was increased to 626, following approval for a 20% increase from Bharathiar University.
The admission procedure was based on marks and communal reservation, and was conducted online. Students submitted their certificates for verification and ranking via the internet.
Government Arts College in Mettupalayam has filled all seats for its M.Com program, the only PG course it offers. Meanwhile, Government Arts College in Valparai has completed admissions for various PG courses including M.A. in English Literature, M.Com in Commerce, M.Com Commerce with CA, and M.Sc. in Computer Science.
The counseling process involved filling out an online application form or visiting the nearest Admission Facilitation Centre (AFC)-2023. These AFCs are located at select government arts and science colleges. Students were able to choose their preferred courses and colleges, after which a rank list was published on the colleges’ respective websites.
After the rank list was published, colleges issued allotment letters to eligible students. The students then reported to the designated colleges mentioned in the allotment letters to confirm their admissions. The online application process began on August 14 and concluded at the beginning of September.
The colleges are now fully prepared to start the academic session, providing an organized and efficient admission process for incoming PG students. The increased enrollment numbers also reflect the growing demand for postgraduate education in the region.
