Many G23 members, have decided that “enough is enough” and they would not remain silent
for long. This time, the G23 members want the fight to go further, either this way or that way.
The veterans of Congress don’t want to be seen as spectators but as people who want to play
an active role in Indian polity.
In private, many have conceded that this would not go down well within the party and could
even lead to a split in the congress party. Congress is on a back foot in Punjab and the
leadership of Gandhi’s is being questioned, senior leader Kapil Sibal has even held a press
conference.
With a staunch army veteran and nationalist like Captain Amarinder Singh, taking on
Gandhi’s, the tide of perception is turning against them, and the loyalists are trying hard to
stop it. The Congress has borrowed new orators like Kanhaiya with chequered background to
counter the tirade of veterans against them.
The game is to get a formal Congress president in place, Rahul cannot play from the fringe,
anymore. He has to take the onus of failure as much as he takes the credit for success. By
stepping down from the President’s post, he just avoided questioning. This does not work
anymore. The battle lines are clearly drawn.
This is good for India in long term, as a credible opposition will emerge, that has real interest
in India’s development. The Gandhi family is barely clinging to the party, a small push will
make India better for generations. Will G 23 get azadi from a foreign born, time will tell?
